Details of Loss
Took off at 11:00 hours for a shipping reconnaissance mission in the area Blankenburg to Flushing.

At about 11:45 four merchant ships, protected by a flak ship, were encountered approximately 10 miles north west of Flushing.

The aircraft was hit by flak and FLTLT Yarra climbed to 1,000 feet before bailing out, but he became caught in the tail plane. His parachute came out, but streamed behind the aircraft. The pilot became disengaged before the aircraft crashed into the sea in flames, and was seen to fall into the water with the parachute unopened.

Spitfire BL899 was lost in the same attack.
